How to convert e-invoice XML to Excel

E-invoice XML to Excel turns many Vietnamese e-invoice XML files into one Excel workbook for accountants and businesses, and reads them in your browser, so the invoices stay on your device.

  1. 1. Get the XML files

Download the invoices as XML from the tax portal (hoadondientu.gdt.gov.vn) or from your provider. You can keep a ZIP file as it is: you do not need to unpack it.

  2. 2. Add the files

Drop the .xml or .zip files, or a whole folder, on the box. You can also click the box to select files, or click “choose a folder”.

  3. 3. Check the list

The table shows each invoice with its date, seller, tax code and total. Read the warnings and the list of files that could not be read.

  4. 4. Download the Excel file

Click Download Excel. Only the number of invoices is sent, to count your free invoices for the day.

Frequently asked questions

Are my invoices uploaded?

No. The XML files are read in your browser, on your own device. When you download the Excel file, the page sends only the number of invoices, to count your free invoices; it never sends the invoices.

Is it free?

You get free invoices every day, with or without an account. More invoices use prepaid credit, which needs an account. See the pricing page for the current numbers. Free invoices reset every day at 00:00 UTC, and sample invoices do not count.

Do I need an account?

Not for the free invoices of the day. When a batch has more invoices than you have left for free today, sign in: the free invoices are used first, and the rest use credit from your account.

Which files can it read?

It reads XML files, ZIP files (also a ZIP inside a ZIP) and whole folders. It cannot read PDF, image, Excel, RAR, 7z or old .inv files: for each one, it tells you the problem and what to do.

Does it read invoices from my provider?

It reads the XML format that the tax authority set in Decision 1233, versions 2.0.0 to 2.1.1, for all nine invoice types. It was tested with real public invoices from 14 providers, among them VNPT, MISA, Viettel, BKAV and EasyInvoice. Invoices in the format used before July 2022 (TT32) are not supported yet.

What is in the Excel file?

One .xlsx file with two sheets. Invoices has one row for each invoice (seller, buyer, tax codes, amount before tax, tax, total, warnings and more), and Line items has one row for each line of goods or services. Amounts and dates are real numbers and dates, so you can add them up and filter them in Excel.

Does it check the invoices?

It shows warnings, for example when the lines do not add up to the total, a tax code is missing, or a series C invoice has no tax authority code. The same invoice added twice is kept once. It does not check the digital signature: look up the invoice on hoadondientu.gdt.gov.vn for that.
