Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Compression runs in your browser, on your own device. The image is never sent to our server, and once the page has loaded the tool keeps working offline.

Is it free? Is there a limit?

It is free, with no account and no daily limit, because your own device does the work. Each image can be up to 25 MB, and you compress one image at a time.

Which formats are supported?

Input: JPEG, PNG or WebP. Output: Auto, WebP, JPEG or PNG. Auto makes a JPEG. It keeps the format of a PNG or WebP that has transparent areas, and keeps PNG when the original is a PNG and the quality is 95% or higher.

Does it keep transparency?

Yes, when the result is PNG or WebP. Auto keeps a transparent PNG or WebP in its own format. JPEG has no transparency, so when you select JPEG, transparent areas become white.

Why is the result not smaller?

Some images are already well compressed. When the result is not smaller at your setting, the tool tells you: lower the quality, or select a smaller longest side.

Does it change the image size in pixels?

Only when the longest side is larger than the size you select. The default is 2048 px. Select Original to keep the size, up to 8192 px on the longest side.

What does Keep JPEG EXIF do?

It copies the EXIF data of the original, such as the camera, the date and the location if the photo has one, into the compressed file. It works only when both the original and the result are JPEG. When it is off, the camera, date and location data are removed, also when the tool returns the original because the result was not smaller.
