How small a product photo needs to be
A phone photo is often 4000 px or more on its long side and several MB. Marketplaces do not need that: Shopee asks for at least 500×500 px, TikTok Shop at least 600×600 px. Smaller files upload faster when you list many products, take less storage, and make your own shop page open faster on a phone.
Some places cap the file size of each photo, at 1 MB or 2 MB for example. Check the number where you post: we have not seen a file-size cap for product photos on Shopee's or TikTok Shop's official help pages.
How to compress a product photo
- Add the photo Open Compress image and drop a JPEG, PNG or WebP (up to 25 MB), or paste with Ctrl+V.
- Pick the longest side The default is 2048 px. For a marketplace choose 2048 or 1920 px; for chat or the web choose 1280 px. A smaller longest side usually saves more than a lower quality.
- Move the Quality slider It starts at 80%. The new size shows after every change, in the After and Saved cards.
- Compare Press Compare & zoom and drag the divider between Original and Compressed. Look at small print on the packaging and at plain areas: that is where too much compression shows first.
- Download Press Download, or Copy to paste it somewhere else.
Choose the output format
- Auto: makes a JPEG. A PNG or WebP with transparent areas keeps its format.
- JPG / JPEG: opens everywhere. Transparent areas become white.
- WebP: smaller, good for your own website. Before using it on a marketplace, check that the marketplace accepts WebP.
- PNG: keeps transparency, larger files. Use it for cutouts you still plan to place on something else.
Getting under 1 MB or 2 MB
The tool has no box for a target file size. Start at 2048 px and 80%. If the After card is still above your limit, lower Max size (longest side) to 1920 or 1280 px first, then lower Quality to about 70%. Stop as soon as you are under the limit.
If the tool says the result is not smaller, the photo was already well compressed. Lower the quality or choose a smaller longest side.
Many photos at once
Compress image does one photo at a time. For a dozen photos, use Resize & add logo: choose Long side at most 1600 px or a 1080×1080 square, choose None if you need no logo, and JPG. It saves JPG at 90% quality, up to 200 photos at a time, as one ZIP, and also runs on your own device.
Date and location inside the photo
A phone photo can hold the date, the camera and the GPS location. Keep JPEG EXIF (ticked by default) copies them into the compressed file. For listing photos, untick it so shoppers cannot see where you took them. It only applies when both the original and the result are JPEG.
When not to compress
- Photos you will still edit or print: keep the original and compress only the copy you post.
- Photos with small print (size charts, ingredient lists): do not drop the quality too far, and always check with the compare view before downloading.
- HEIC photos from an iPhone: the tool does not take HEIC yet. Convert them with HEIC to JPG, where you can also choose quality 80, 90 or 95.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser, on your own device. Once the page has loaded, the tool keeps working offline.
Is it free?
Yes, with no account and no daily limit, because your own device does the work. Each image can be up to 25 MB, one image at a time.
Does it change the size in pixels?
Only when the longest side is larger than the size you select. The default is 2048 px. Select Original to keep the size, up to 8192 px on the longest side.
Can I get a photo under 1 MB?
Usually, for product photos: lower the longest side to 1920 or 1280 px, keep quality around 80%, then read the After card. The tool has no target-size box yet.
Does it keep transparency?
Yes, when the result is PNG or WebP. If you select JPEG, transparent areas become white.
