Quick answers
What is Subtalk?
Subtalk is a Mac app that shows translated subtitles while people talk in calls, meetings and videos, and turns each session into a note with a summary, decisions and action items. Speech recognition, translation and the summary run on your Mac.
Which Macs does it run on?
Macs with an Apple chip (M1 or later) and macOS 26 or later. Intel Macs are not supported. The AI summary and questions need 12 GB of memory or more.
How do I install it?
Download the .dmg file from the Subtalk release page on GitHub (github.com/yangyang1508/subtalk-releases), open it and drag Subtalk into Applications. The app is signed and notarized by Apple.
Which permissions does it ask for?
Microphone, to hear you, and Screen & System Audio Recording, to hear the sound of Zoom, Meet, Teams or a video. Subtalk uses them only while a session is running, and shows a red dot while it listens. You can change them in System Settings › Privacy & Security.
How do I get the free trial?
In Subtalk, click Get a trial key. The app copies your Mac's code and opens the trial page. Sign in to your Yangopen account, paste the code, click Get key, then paste the key into Subtalk and click Activate. Every feature works for 7 days.
Why does my trial key show fewer than 7 days?
The 7 days start when the key is made, not when you paste it. Each account and each Mac gets one trial; asking again for the same Mac gives the same key with the same end date.
The trial page says my account or my Mac already had a trial.
Each Yangopen account can get one trial key, for one Mac, and each Mac can get one trial. If you think this is a mistake, e-mail us with the e-mail address of your account.
Which languages does it hear and translate?
English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and about 28 more, such as Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, French and German. The app's own interface is in Vietnamese, English or Chinese.
Translation does not show. What do I do?
Subtalk translates with Apple's on-device translation, which needs the free language packs. Open System Settings › General › Language & Region › Translation Languages and download the languages you use. For a pair Apple does not translate, the app offers a model to download.
How do summaries and questions work?
An AI model on your Mac writes the summary and answers questions about a meeting. The app downloads it once (2.7 GB) and it needs 12 GB of memory or more. Without it, Subtalk makes a simpler summary from the most telling lines. AI output can be wrong: click the time beside a point to check the lines it came from.
Can it read the translation aloud?
Yes, with voices made on your Mac, in Vietnamese, English and other languages. Chinese voices are not part of this version.
Is anything I record sent to a server?
No. Audio, transcripts, translations, summaries and notes stay on your Mac. The app goes online only to download models and language packs, to check for updates and when you open a link. The privacy policy lists every case.
How do updates work?
Once a day Subtalk checks the release page on GitHub for a new version. When there is one, it asks you; the update is signed, and the app checks the signature before it installs it.
How do I buy Subtalk?
Sales are not open yet. The price will be published on the Subtalk page; it will be a one-time licence, not a subscription. Until then, use the free trial.
What happens when the trial ends?
New work stops: listening, transcribing files, summaries, questions, reading aloud and translating text. Your notes stay: you can still open, play, export and delete them. A session that started during the trial can go on.
I have a new Mac. Can I move my trial?
No. A key works only on the Mac whose code it was made for, and each account gets one trial.
How do I delete my data?
Delete notes in the app; deleted notes go to the app's Trash until you empty it (Settings › Advanced › Data). To remove everything, quit Subtalk, move it from Applications to the Trash and delete the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Subtalk. Deleting your Yangopen account (e-mail [email protected]) also removes your account from the trial record; the Mac's fingerprint stays, so that Mac does not get a second trial.
How do I contact you?
E-mail [email protected]. We answer in English or Vietnamese.
