What you hear
stays on your Mac

No cloud engine, no account in the app, no analytics. Below is every time Subtalk or its trial page handles data, and what is involved.

Effective date: 29 October 2026

Summary: Subtalk processes audio, transcripts, translations and summaries on your Mac. We do not receive any of it. The app goes online only to download models, to let macOS download speech and translation packs, and to check for updates. The trial page keeps your Yangopen account, the trial dates and a one-way fingerprint of your Mac's code.

1. Scope

This policy covers Subtalk for Mac downloaded from yangopen.com or its release page on GitHub, and the Subtalk pages on yangopen.com, including the trial page. Subtalk is made and sold by Yang Yang HOANG LE, an individual developer in Vietnam who runs Yangopen (“we”). Your Yangopen account itself is covered by the Yangopen privacy policy.

2. What stays on your Mac

  • Sound: the microphone and your Mac's audio while a session runs, processed in memory to make subtitles.
  • Recordings: an .m4a file per session, only if you turn on Save recordings.
  • Notes: transcripts, translations, summaries, your own notes and questions, stored encrypted in the app's folder (~/Library/Application Support/Subtalk). Deleted notes stay in the app's Trash until you empty it.
  • Licence and settings: your licence key and your choices.

We cannot see this data. It can be part of your own Mac backup, such as Time Machine.

3. The trial key

When you ask for a trial key on yangopen.com, we receive and keep:

  • the Yangopen account that asked (its id; the account holds your e-mail address);
  • a SHA-256 fingerprint of the Mac code you pasted, never the code itself. The Mac code is already a short value derived from the Mac's hardware id; it says which Mac, not who you are;
  • the date the key was made and the date it ends.

We use them only to give one trial per account and per Mac, and to give the same key again when you ask again. The key itself is not stored: it is signed again from these dates. When you delete your Yangopen account, the record loses its link to the account; the fingerprint and the dates are kept, only so that the same Mac does not get a second trial. Like any website, the server sees your network (IP) address, used to limit how often a request can be sent.

4. When the app goes online

  • Model downloads, when you choose a speech, translation, summary or voice model: files come from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) and GitHub (github.com). The app checks each file's SHA-256 fingerprint. No data about you or your notes is sent.
  • macOS downloads: Apple's speech models and translation language packs are downloaded by macOS itself, under Apple's policy.
  • Update check, once a day: the app reads the latest version on github.com/yangyang1508/subtalk-releases and, when you agree, downloads the signed update. Nothing about you or your notes is sent.
  • Links you click, such as the trial page, open in your browser.

These sites see your IP address, as with any website. Subtalk contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting tools.

5. AI on your Mac

Summaries, answers, translations and voices are made by models running on your Mac and may be wrong. Each summary point links to the transcript lines it comes from, so you can check it. No automated decision is made about you or anyone else.

6. Other people in the meeting

Subtalk hears everyone in the meeting. Tell the other participants before you use it, and ask their consent where the law requires it. The app shows a red dot while it listens.

7. Your rights and deleting data

  • Data on your Mac: you open, export and delete it in the app. Removing the app and the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Subtalk deletes it from the Mac.
  • Trial records: e-mail [email protected] to ask what we keep. Deleting your Yangopen account removes the account from the record (section 3).

8. Children

Subtalk is a work tool and is not meant for children. We do not knowingly keep data about children.

9. When you e-mail us

When you write to [email protected], we receive your e-mail address and what you wrote, and use them only to answer you.

10. Changes and contact

If a later version handles data differently, we will update this page and the date above no later than when that version is released. If a version ever sends your recordings or notes off your Mac, it will ask you first. Send privacy questions to [email protected].
