Frequently asked questions

Can I change the text already in a PDF?

Yes, a line at a time. Click a line and type; clear it to take the line out. The old line is covered with its background colour and the new one is written in its place, at the same size and colour, in the closest font: Arimo for text like Arial, Tinos for text like Times New Roman. The new words are real text you can select and search.

Is the old text removed from the file?

Not when you change a line: the old words stay under the cover, out of sight and off the print, but software can still copy them. To remove words for good, use Cover and keep Remove the text under Cover on: a page with a cover is saved as a picture, so the words under it are not in the file.

Why does the new text not match the original font exactly?

A PDF usually holds only the letters it uses of its fonts, so new words cannot be written in them. The tool picks a font with the same letter widths, and you can change the font, size, colour and bold in the bar above the pages. Italic text is written upright.

Can I edit a scanned PDF?

A scan is a picture, with no lines of text to click. Use Cover over what to change, then Add text on top. To get the text out of a scan, use Image to text.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The file is opened and written in your browser, on your own device. The page only loads the PDF reader and the fonts from Yangopen.

Are there limits?

Free, no account needed. One file at a time, up to 200 MB. A password-locked file needs unlocking first: open it in a PDF reader, print it to PDF, then add the new file. Chinese, Japanese, Korean and emoji can be added, but they are saved as pictures, so they cannot be selected.
