Effective date: September 20, 2026
1. Scope
This policy applies to the PaperHear iPhone app and the related support pages operated by Yangopen.
2. Data stored on your iPhone
PaperHear may store imported documents, cleaned text, saved sources, cover images, reading sections, current sentence position, notes, playback preferences, listening history and downloaded voices. Private diagnostics store technical import metadata only; they exclude document text, titles, URLs and file paths.
3. Files, camera and articles
- Files and pasted text: PaperHear receives only the files or text you choose to import.
- Camera: camera permission is requested only when you start a scan. OCR uses Apple’s on-device text recognition. Scanned images stay on this device as the original pages; PaperHear does not upload them.
- Saved sources and covers: Imported articles and available cover images are stored on your iPhone so you can reopen the original source.
- HTTPS articles: when you import a link, PaperHear connects directly to that website for the page and, when available, its cover image. That website receives normal connection data such as your IP address and applies its own privacy policy.
4. Voice packs and playback
PaperHear uses voice packs that run on your iPhone. A pack is downloaded only when you tap Download, play a sample, or start playback for a voice that is not installed; Hugging Face, GitHub or OpenMOSS receives normal connection data such as your IP address. Audio is then generated on your iPhone. PaperHear does not silently fall back to an Apple voice.
5. Purchases
Apple processes PaperHear Plus purchases and restoration through StoreKit. Plus is a one-time purchase that removes the monthly import limit. PaperHear does not receive your payment-card details or Apple Account password; the app receives only the access status needed to apply your import allowance.
6. Analytics, advertising and tracking
PaperHear does not require an account, include advertising, use third-party analytics SDKs or provide remote document sync. The app does not track you across apps or websites.
7. Retention, export and deletion
You can export a Library backup or private diagnostics, then delete all local data in PaperHear. Deletion includes documents, saved sources, covers, notes, reading position, listening history and downloaded voices. iOS backups may retain app data according to your Apple backup settings.
8. Notifications, changes and contact
PaperHear does not send marketing notifications. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date. Privacy questions can be sent to [email protected].
