How do I count?

Tap anywhere in the large circle to count one bead; “+1 mala” adds a full mala (108 by default, adjustable per practice). Every tap is written to disk immediately, so a crash or dead battery never loses your count. Use the lock icon to prevent accidental taps; hold it for one second to unlock.

How do I count on Apple Watch (Premium)?

Open Dharma Mala on your iPhone once so your practices appear on the watch. Pick a practice, then tap the screen or turn the Digital Crown to count one bead; the watch taps your wrist for each bead and more strongly at each full mala. Tap ✓ when you finish and the session is added to that day on your iPhone, even if the iPhone was out of reach while you counted.

Backfill or practice debt?

Backfill is for days you practiced but forgot to log: choose “Practiced in full” to top up to your commitment, or “Enter total” to split a total evenly across selected days. Truly missed keeps the shortfall as practice debt, which is repaid automatically whenever you count more than your daily commitment. Pauses (illness, travel) exclude days from debt.

Which day does practice after midnight count for?

If you often practice after midnight, set Settings → “Practice day starts at” (e.g. 03:00) so late sessions count toward the previous day.

Which Tibetan calendar does it use?

Dates use the Phugpa system. When a lunar date is omitted, its observance is shown on the preceding day; when doubled, on the first day. Some lineages (e.g. Karma Kagyu, Tsurphu system) may differ by a day.

Is Premium a subscription?

Premium is a one-time purchase with no subscription. On a new iPhone, tap “Restore Purchases” in Settings or on the Premium screen with the same Apple Account.

How do I move to a new phone?

Settings → Data → “Back up”, then choose “Save to Files” → iCloud Drive. On a new phone, tap the .dharmamala file in the Files app (or use “Restore from backup”): practices, sessions, profile and settings are merged without creating duplicates. Premium users can also turn on iCloud sync.

Where are the calendar sources and licences?

The sources behind the Tibetan calendar and almanac, and the open-source licence notices, are listed in Settings → About → Licences.
