Effective date: October 4, 2026
1. Scope
This policy covers the Dharma Mala iPhone app, its Apple Watch app and widgets, and these support pages, operated by Yangopen.
2. Data stored on your iPhone
Practices and mantras, counting sessions, daily commitments and their history, pauses, backfill and “truly missed” decisions, your log of empowerments, transmissions, instructions, vows and retreats, your library (documents you import, video links, meeting links, IDs and passcodes), your profile (name, photo and practice start date) and settings. When you save a YouTube link, the app loads its preview image and title directly from YouTube; opening a video or a meeting hands the link to the YouTube, Zoom or other app or website you use, under their own policies. The optional app lock uses Face ID / Touch ID through iOS; the app never receives biometric data.
3. iCloud sync (optional, Premium)
If you turn on iCloud sync, your practice data is stored in your private CloudKit database in your Apple Account. We cannot access it. Turning sync off keeps the data on your iPhone.
4. Apple Watch
The watch app receives your list of practices from your iPhone and sends the counts you make back to it, directly between your paired devices through Apple's WatchConnectivity. Nothing passes through our servers.
5. Network use
The app goes online only to load previews of YouTube links you save, to open links and meetings you tap, for App Store purchases and, if you turn it on, iCloud sync. It has no account system and sends none of your practice data to our servers.
6. Purchases
Apple processes the one-time Premium purchase through the App Store. We never receive your payment details or Apple Account password; the app receives only the signed transaction information needed to confirm Premium.
7. Notifications
Reminders for daily practice and special days are scheduled locally on your iPhone. We do not send marketing notifications.
8. Advertising and tracking
Dharma Mala contains no advertising, no third-party analytics and does not track you across apps or websites.
9. Retention and deletion
Delete a practice or the app to remove local data. Backup files (.dharmamala) you export are under your control; they include your profile, settings and any saved Zoom passcodes, so keep them to yourself.
10. Children
Dharma Mala is not directed to children under 13.
11. Changes and contact
Material changes will be shown with a new effective date. Privacy questions: [email protected].
