Effective: 3 November 2026
1. Scope
This policy applies to Brim for Mac. Brim is made by Yang Yang HOANG LE, an individual developer in Vietnam who runs Yangopen (“we”). When you visit the Brim pages on yangopen.com, the Yangopen privacy policy applies.
2. What stays on your Mac
- Snips and recordings: saved on your Mac, in Pictures › Brim and Downloads (or Movies › Brim). Pinned pictures are kept in Library › Application Support › Brim, so they come back after a restart.
- Reading text, QR codes and translating: done with macOS’s own tools, on your Mac. A picture to read is kept in a temporary file only while it is read.
- Talk to type: Apple’s speech model listens on your Mac. Brim does not keep your voice. To put the words into the text field, Brim pastes them through the clipboard, then puts back what was there.
- Clipboard history: kept in memory only, up to 20 items (6 pictures), and gone when Brim quits. Brim skips anything a password manager marks as secret. Turning the feature off clears it.
- File shelf: keeps only the path to each file. Brim does not copy or move files.
- Calendar: Brim reads your next event in the coming 24 hours from the Calendar app, only when you turn this feature on.
- Camera: on only while the mirror page is open in the notch. Brim does not record it.
- Mac status: what is playing, battery, earbuds, files being downloaded, Focus. Brim reads these from macOS to show them in the notch, and does not keep them.
- Keyboard: Brim acts only on its own shortcuts and talk key. Brim does not record what you type.
- Your settings, kept in macOS’s preferences file.
We cannot see any of this.
3. When Brim goes online
- Update check: at launch and once a day, Brim asks GitHub (api.github.com) for the latest Brim version number. The request carries none of your data. As with any connection, GitHub sees your Mac’s IP address.
- Downloading Brim: Brim.dmg is hosted on GitHub, so GitHub sees your IP address when you download it.
- Language packs: the first time you translate or talk to type, macOS may download a language pack from Apple.
- AirDrop: when you send a file with AirDrop, macOS sends it straight to the other device.
Brim has no account, no ads, no usage analytics and no automatic crash reports.
4. macOS permissions
Brim uses each permission only for the job listed beside it. You can turn a permission off at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security; the feature that needs it then stops.
- Accessibility: volume and brightness keys, scrolling, switching Spaces, mouse buttons, the keyboard lock, putting your words into the text field when you talk to type.
- Screen Recording: snipping, recording, copying and translating text on the screen.
- Microphone: talk to type, and sound in a recording when you turn it on.
- Calendars: your next event.
- Camera: the mirror.
5. Your rights
We keep no data of yours from Brim, so there is nothing on a server to see, correct or delete. To remove everything Brim keeps on your Mac, remove the app and delete the Brim folder in Library › Application Support. Privacy questions go to [email protected].
6. Children
Brim is a work tool, not made for children. We collect no data about anyone, children included.
7. Changes and contact
If a later version handles data differently, we will update this page and the date above, no later than that version’s release. If any version would send your data off your Mac, the app will ask you first. Questions go to [email protected].
