ID photo
How to make an ID photo
ID photo removes the background, puts a white or blue one in and places the face for 3 × 4, 4 × 6, 2 × 3 cm and visa photos, in your browser, so the photo stays on your device.
- Add a portrait
Take it from the front, against a plain wall, in even light; then drop it here, click to choose it, or paste it (Ctrl+V).
- Pick the size and the background
Choose the size (3 × 4, 4 × 6…) and white or blue. The background is removed and the head placed to the size's rule; drag the photo or change the face size if needed.
- Download and print
Download the ID photo to upload it, or the 10 × 15 sheet to print at a photo shop and cut.
Frequently asked questions
Didn't find your answer? Ask Yangopen
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The face finder and the background remover are downloaded from yangopen.com into your browser and run on your device; the photo is not sent anywhere. The first time, the page downloads about 12 MB; after that the browser keeps it.
Can I use it for a Vietnamese passport application?
It is made to the guidance quoted from the public service portal: 4 × 6 cm, white background, 300 dpi, eyes about two fifths of the way down. The office decides, and rules change: check the Ministry of Public Security's portal before you apply. Take the photo looking straight ahead, without glasses, ears showing, head uncovered, in even light.
How do I print it at the right size?
Download the 10 × 15 sheet and print it at a photo shop or on a photo printer at 10 × 15 cm (4 × 6 in), at actual size, not scaled to fit; then cut along the grey lines. The file says 300 dpi, so a printer set to actual size prints 3 × 4 cm as 3 × 4 cm.
How should I take the photo?
Stand about a metre in front of a plain, light wall, face a window or even light, and have someone take the photo at eye level from 1–1.5 m (a selfie close up makes the nose look bigger). Keep the whole head and the shoulders in the picture, and tie long hair back from the face.
The head is in the wrong place. What can I do?
Drag the photo in the preview to move it, or use Face size to make the head larger or smaller, until the head sits in the red oval. The photo is turned only when the eyes are clearly not level, and the message says by how much; Rotate turns it by hand. Place automatically again puts it all back. If no face is found, choose a photo taken from the front with the whole face showing.
White or blue background?
Passports, ID cards and most visas want white. Many school, exam and job applications in Vietnam take blue or white: ask the office that will receive it.
