Frequently asked questions
What does Expand image do?
It makes a photo larger than its frame. AI paints new background around the edges so the photo fits a new shape, for example a portrait photo made into a 16:9 banner. It only adds to the photo; it never crops it.
Which shapes can I choose?
16:9, 4:3, 3:2, 1:1, 3:4, 2:3 and 9:16. With Custom, the photo grows sideways and up and down by up to 100% of its width or height, split equally between the two sides.
Does the AI change my photo?
The AI paints only the new area. Your photo is kept, with a soft blend along the seam so there is no hard line. A very large result is scaled down as a whole, so the shape stays the one you selected.
Is Expand image free?
You get free runs every day, with or without an account. After that, each run costs credits, which needs an account. See the pricing page for the current numbers. Free runs reset every day at 00:00 UTC.
Where does my image go?
To our server, which sends a copy to Cloudflare Workers AI to paint the new area. It is processed in memory, not stored and not used to train AI. If Workers AI does not answer, our own server does the whole job.
What file do I get?
A JPEG, named after your file with -expanded at the end. You can add a JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 25 MB.
